What Ring Size Should You Choose? The Guide to Getting It Right

It's the question we get asked most often before an order: «what ring size should I choose?». Good news, no need to visit a jeweler to find out: a few minutes at home is enough.

How to measure your ring size at home

Take a thin strip of paper or string, wrap it around the finger you want to measure, then mark where the two ends meet. Measure this length in millimeters with a ruler: that's your ring size (sizing varies by country, so check our conversion chart below for US/UK equivalents).

Two tips to avoid mistakes:

  • Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are slightly more swollen than in the morning.
  • Avoid measuring when your hands are cold: fingers shrink slightly.

Between two sizes?

It happens often, and the rule is simple: always go up a size. This is especially true for a ring you plan to wear every day: a little extra comfort is never regretted, unlike a ring that's too tight.

What about necklaces, earrings, and hoops?

The logic shifts a bit depending on the piece:

  • Necklaces: it's all about length, from 35cm (choker) to 80cm and beyond (long chain to double up). The most versatile length stays around 42-45cm, which falls at the collarbone.
  • Earrings: comfort mostly depends on weight and length: studs for everyday wear, longer drops for a bolder look.
  • Hoops: diameter makes all the difference, from 10mm for a discreet look to 50mm and beyond for a statement piece worn alone.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I'm really between two ring sizes?
If the paper strip fits only by pushing slightly, or feels a bit loose but doesn't slide off, you're between two sizes. When in doubt, always go with the larger size.

Are ring sizes the same in France and the United States?
No, the systems are different: French sizing is based on circumference in mm, while US/UK sizing uses a different scale. Check our conversion chart in the full guide to avoid any mistakes.

Can my ring size change with the seasons?
Yes, slightly: heat makes fingers swell a bit, cold makes them shrink. That's why we recommend measuring at the end of the day, under conditions most representative of everyday wear.
